Class Dojo is a site that allows teachers to connect the school and classroom world to students' homes. Teachers can use Class Dojo as a behavior management tool. Class Dojo provides teachers with the opportunity to create various forms of feedback. Each form of feedback can be categorized under either positive or needs work. From there teachers can award a point value for each feedback. Students can earn or lose points based on what feedback they are earning. Parents have the ability to view this feedback at any point in time. Teachers also have the ability to view and print out reports for each student showing the feedback for any given point in time. Teachers can take advantage of creating a class story as well. This allows teachers to post messages to students and parents. These posts can include both pictures and videos. Parents are able to view these post, like them, and leave comments. Another available option for Class Dojo users is the ability for parents and teachers to message each other freely at any point in the day.

I cannot say enough good about Class Dojo! I love that I have the ability to decide what students are able to earn points for and what they are able to lose points for. This allows me to set goals for my classroom as well as help to diminish unwanted behaviors. I find it very helpful that each time feedback is given students hear the positive sound and the needs work sound. This helps to tell students GREAT JOB KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK or UH OH I better think about my choices. I send a weekly report home to show parents how their child has done through out the week. They also have the ability to check their child's points out at any time. This has been great in bridging school and home. Students now know that their parents are able to see how they are doing each day. I have found that students are more accountable for their choices because of this.
I have also noticed that Class Dojo has helped me to share what is going on in the classroom a great deal more! Class Dojo allows me to post messages, pictures, and videos with great ease! It's like a Facebook or Instagram in the classroom. The app on my phone makes it so easy to share everything with parents.
My communication between the classroom and home has grown immensely! I find that I am sharing more with the parents in every way. I am able to share the behavior with no extra work than what I do in the classroom. Having the app on my phone allows my to snap a quick picture or video and post it in a blink or an eye. I can do the same thing if I want to put a message or reminder out to all the parents. I also love that the ease of messaging has opened many parents to sending me a short line asking how their child is doing in the classroom or clarifying a question they may have.
I think the only problem I have with Class Dojo is that I can't do anything to connect all parents. It is up to the parent to make sure they are connected. I can send invites through Dojo or paper directions on how they can connect with our class, but in the end it is up to the parent to connect or accept my invite. Unfortunately like many other troubles we face as teachers parents will only get as involved as they would like to.
